Hello, and thank you for reading my essay about Cleopatra V.I have put a lot of thought in this, and I hope you respect that.Anyways this is my Social Studies project and I hope you enjoy!
Cleopatra V was born in 79 BC in Egypt. Her father was also a pharaoh. His name was,Ptolemy XII.Her mother's name was Cleopatra V Tryphaena. She (Cleopatra V) had two older sisters named Cleopatra VI and Berenice IV.She even had a younger sister,Arsinole IV.Her two younger brothers almost had the same name as their dad.Ptolemy XII and Ptolemy XIV. I really don't know what these roman numerals mean, but you have to figure it out yourselfs. When their father died in 51 BC,he gave the kingdom to Cleopatra V and her brother,Ptolemy XIV.For a shock, she married him.A twelve-year-old.She didn't like him as a husband, but she married him for wanting to rule.
If she was going to rule the kingdom, she would have to marry either a brother or son.Cleopatra is one of the most talked about woman in Ancient Egyptian history.Even though Cleopatra V lacked beauty, she was an interesting woman known for smartness and charm. This described her quote,"a countenance alive rather than beautiful, sensitive mouth, firm chin liquid eyes, broad forehead and prominent nose."When siblings would marry,it would be called "common practice".Cleopatra's capital was Alexandria, which was discovered by Alexander the Great(who you should vote for on my poll)who was a excellent center of Hellenistic Greek culture.
It is still a mystery of how Cleopatra used to live.During July of the year 46 BC, Caesar returned to Rome. These celebrations lasted from September to October and he brought Cleopatra over, along with her entourage. Her social manners did not make the situation any better. Cleopatra had started calling herself the New Isis. She lived in luxury and had a statue made of gold placed by Caesar, in the temple of Venus Genetrix . Caesar also openly claimed Caesarion as his son. Many were upset that he was begging to marry Cleopatra.
However, in the middle of March of 44 BC, all of that came to an end. Caesar was killed outside the Senate Building in Rome. After Caesar died, Cleopatra went to Rome and went back home to Alexandria. She felt her life, as well as her child, was in really bad trouble.Cleopatra was invited by Mark Antony to Tarsus in 41 BC.Cleopatra had given birth to twins, one boy and one girl, in Alexandria. Antony's first child by Octavia was a girl. Had Octavia given him a son, things might have turned out different. When Marc Anthony got treasures, the standard interest rate in Rome fell from 12 percent to 4.
Between 32 to 31 BC, Antony finally got divorced by Octavia.By doing this, Antony's relationship with the Roman team was ended.Octavian then declared war against Cleopatra. Antony's name was not even said. However, Octavian's navy severely defeated Antony in Actium, which is in Greece, on September 2, 31 BC.After failing, Antony committed suicide by falling on his own sword in 30 BC. After Antony died, Cleopatra was taken to Octavian where her role in Octavian's triumph was carefully explained to her.Octavia's death was the mark of the end of the Egyptian Monarchs. The Roman Emperors came into to rule in Egypt.Cleopatra was now the last pharaoh in Egypt.
What is often not associated with Cleopatra was her brilliance and her devotion to her country. She was a fast learning woman who was great in nine languages. She fought for her country. She had a lovable personality, was a born a leader and an beautiful monarch who deserved better than suicide. She was buried beside Antony as she wished. She died on August 12, 30 BC at the age of 42.After Cleopatra's death, Caesarion was killed and the other children of Cleopatra were raised by Antony's wife, Octavia.Cleopatra was the last pharaoh; after her death Egypt became a Roman rememberance.
